Privacy Policy
The short version
Music Chef is run by one person. I collect the least I can get away with, I do not sell anything about you to anybody, and there is no advertising on this site. If you want your data removed, email me and I will do it.

Who runs this site
Music Chef (musicchef.pro) is operated by Will Edwards, based in California, USA. For anything in this policy, including requests to see or delete your data, contact chef@musicchef.pro.
What I collect, and when
When you download something
Every download on this site is free, with an optional payment. To send you the file I collect your name and email address. If you choose to pay, the card details go directly to Stripe or PayPal and never reach this site. I can see the amount, the date, and the last four digits of the card.
When you join the email list
Your email address, and your first name if you give it. This is stored with Kit (formerly ConvertKit), who send the emails on my behalf. Every email has an unsubscribe link and it works immediately.
When you create an account
Your name, email address, password (stored encrypted, I cannot see it), and your download history. Accounts exist so you can get your files again without paying twice.
When you start a checkout and do not finish
If you entered an email address before leaving, you may get one reminder that your download is still waiting. You can opt out from any of those emails.
When you book a coaching session
Booking happens on Acuity Scheduling, not here. They collect your name, email, timezone and payment. Their privacy policy governs that.
When you leave a comment
Your name, email address, IP address and browser type, used to catch spam. Comments and their details are kept until you ask me to remove them.
How the site learns what to show you
This site builds a simple picture of what you seem interested in, so it can put more useful things in front of you. Reading a page about Dorico nudges the site toward showing you Dorico material. That picture is stored in your own browser and contains no name, email or identifying detail.
If you have an account and you are signed in, that picture is saved to your account so it works across your devices. It is never sold, never shared, and is used only to decide what to show you on this site. Clearing your browser storage erases it, and deleting your account deletes the saved copy.
Cookies and analytics
Necessary cookies keep you signed in and keep your cart working. You can decline everything else through the cookie banner.
For analytics I use Google Analytics, MonsterInsights and Jetpack Stats to see which pages get read and which do not. This tells me things like “forty people read the expression maps page this week”. It is not used to identify you personally.
Pages with embedded YouTube videos let Google set cookies as if you had visited YouTube directly. That is Google’s collection, not mine.
Who your data goes to
| Stripe, PayPal | Processing payments |
| Kit | Sending the email list |
| Acuity Scheduling | Booking coaching sessions |
| Google Analytics, Jetpack | Site statistics |
| SiteGround | Hosting this website |
That is the whole list. I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I never will.
How long I keep things
Order and payment records are kept for seven years, because tax rules require it. Email list entries are kept until you unsubscribe. Account details are kept until you ask me to close the account. Comments are kept until you ask for removal. Analytics data expires automatically after fourteen months.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable file. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time. I will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR and GDPR give you those rights formally, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you the same rights, plus the right to know whether your personal information is sold. It is not, and it never has been.
Email chef@musicchef.pro and I will respond within thirty days, usually much sooner.
Children
This site is meant for working and aspiring composers. It is not directed at children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given me their details, email me and I will delete it.
Security, and honesty about it
The site runs over HTTPS, passwords are encrypted, and card details never touch my servers. No website can promise perfect security, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your data, I will tell you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, say so in the newsletter.
